Peekskill Summer Activities

Peekskill is a friendly town, and there’s lots to do if you’re looking for summer activities. Here are a few we think are worth a mention:

  • Hike or bike the Blue Mountain Reservation
This 1,538-acre park right in Peekskill proper features miles of trails for mountain biking, strolling and nature study, and offers challenging hikes to the tops of two large peaks, Mt. Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain.

  • Take in a summer show or just chill by the water at Riverfront Green Park.  A great place to river watch, check out some cool sculptures, enjoy a picnic or bring the kids to the playground. There are nearby restaurants, bars, delis and an ice cream shop, so you don’t have to trek back to town.
  • Enjoy Peekskill and the Hudson Valley by getting out on the water for a relaxing cruise.
trinity_1Trinity Cruise Company offers cruises from Peekskill’s Riverfront Green Park through the Hudson Highlands.  Check their calendar for their regular schedule and special events such as the monthly Wine Tasting Cruise with Dylan’s Wine Cellar and the Brews & Blues Cruise with Peekskill Brewery growlers.
  • Stop by to watch an evening basketball game or enjoy the spray pool on a hot summer day. Main St. Peekskill.
  • Take a tour of Peekskill points of interest on “Stella” the Peekskill Trolly.

Public Workshop for Peekskill Local Waterfront Revitalization Program

pwrwPeekskill’s Waterfront Advisory Committee is holding a public workshop on potential projects for the Peekskill waterfront. This is an opportunity to get your voice heard, learn about the process and help the Waterfront Advisory Committee build upon the many new developments that have occurred in the waterfront area in recent years.

This workshop follows a public workshop that was held in March identifying a vision for the waterfront and educating the public about key issues and opportunities that the LWRP needed to address.

The City of Peekskill is in the process of updating its Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). The LWRP is a plan that is prepared by a Waterfront Advisory Committee made up of local residents, business owners and civic leaders, with the assistance of City staff and a team of planning consultants. Although the Committee prepares the LWRP with public input, the Common Council has the ultimate responsibility for adopting the plan.

Since the March workshop, the Committee has used public input, technical analysis and conversations with City staff and the City Council to come up with a list of potential projects, policies and land use recommendations that will benefit the Peekskill waterfront. The next step is to present these potential projects to the public for your input, comment and additional ideas.

When: Tuesday, June 16, 2015, 7 PM to 9 PM
Where:  Nutrition Room at the Neighborhood Center (4 Nelson Avenue, Peekskill).

Please share with your friends, neighbors, colleagues or anyone who may have an interest in the future of Peekskill’s waterfront.

For more information, please visit the website for the City of Peekskill LWRP.

March meeting summary

If you can’t attend on the 16th, the meeting materials will be posted to the City’s LWRP website along with a link to send comments.

Keep Your Hudson Clean!

Sick of finding junk along the shores?
Done with kayaking through patches of garbage?
Tired of taking creepy looking objects from your dog when walking along the riverfront?

Well, this Saturday, May 9th, you can do something about it!

Riverkeeper is having a River Sweep event all along the Hudson Estuary* from New York City all the way to Albany. There is still time to sign up!

*(Fun Fact: The Hudson is actually a tidal estuary, not a river, at least as far north as Troy, NY. Same goes fot the East and Harlem Rivers.)
